Snow day...Oh wait I work for Weber School District
We spent Presidents Day weekend up at Bear Lake staying in a condo and relaxing through the weekend. Staci's Blog goes into detail about what we did so I won't repeat. It is Weds. 25th of Feb. and I have finally finished digging out of the snow from the storm that hit on Tues. the 17th. I know that when I go on vacation and have to have a substitute custodian it's always a crap shoot. Well snake eyes is what I rolled. Weber School District's Sub's are terrible. It's not totally their fault. They are underpaid, undertrained, and unfamiliar with the in's and out's of the individual schools. It's really alot to learn, I just wish they could take a little more initiative and ownership of there work. Tuesday was one of those storms that only come around once and a while. 24 inches of heavy wet snow fell in about 18 hrs. Clearing that much snow is a chore and you have to be on it to really keep up. My sub was caught with his pants down. In all fairness it's hard to hold a bottle of Mt. Dew, push a snow shovel, and make progress at the same time. The worst part is he only shoveled the same shovel width around the school. OOOHHH! I forgot to mention that I have a four-wheel drive tractor with a 60 inch blade. No shovel is needed. I know that there would be parts of the school that the tractor would have bogged down and not been able to clear, but the main walks could have been done. By the way I also have a four foot snow blower that goes on the tractor as well. It runs off the PTO and can move mountains of snow. It only takes 5 minutes to attach. It could have moved anything that fell. So I shake my head and wonder why they didn't put good equiptment to work. Why would you run circles in the parking lot, and ignore the sidewalks? The district has big trucks for the parking lot. The sidewalks are the custodians priority. Needless to say when I return to work on Wednesday I had an mess of snow, a tractor on empty, and a bunch of questions as to what the heck went on. I managed to get my ego stroked real good when teachers, secretary, and aides all wondered why I could get things done when the two others couldn't. I'm know the sub and Heber were spent. Bonus points for me I can to the job myself.

I had a bowl of stupid this morning...How may I help you?
I just don't know how you can stay in business when you are stupid. We went to buy a table saw at Sears. I'm not a huge Craftsman fan, but for the little use I'll give it, price, and features it usually end up being a good value. Employees must be a value too. We are talking anyone with a pulse. You would think in an economy like this they would have employees that knew what they were doing. After being told there were three in stock they disappeared because no one could find them. So I ordered one so that I could pick it up later in the week. He screwed up the transaction and I ended waiting 25 minutes to have a manager fix the problem. I would of left but my transaction was frozen in space and I didn't want to leave until it cleared. Their operation manager called to apologize later after I complained on there comment board. He did a poor job of reassuring me that any improvement will be made. I really wouldn't shop there again except I need a new battery for my drill. Maybe online is the way to go. The computer screen has as much personality as their employees. I read that Sears might not be around in 2010. I can't imagine why this would be while they hire the people they have working for them.
